Set up a real conversation
Identify a few available spaces. Discuss what the person wants near them and whether they want company.
Words to have nearby
- Quiet please
- Lights down
- Door open
- Door closed
- Stay near
The board also keeps yes, no, help and stop nearby. Use these messages for real choices and responses, without requiring a particular button as the correct answer.
One way to join in
You could model “I need a break” when it fits your own meaning, then leave time for the other person’s idea. Respond to their chosen message, gesture or other communication, including a refusal or a different plan.
Try another version
Plan a comfortable space before a busy event starts.
Make it fit the communicator
Choose a comfortable screen position and button size. Keep their usual vocabulary available alongside the activity. A person can participate by speaking, pointing, looking, signing or using another established access method. The browser board offers direct touch or click; it does not provide a complete individualized access setup.
The original page is labeled Device-test draft. Before adding a native file to an everyday device, back up the existing vocabulary and check the imported pictures, speech and navigation separately. See the import guide.
