Access and browser notes
AAC Pages offers activity vocabulary and picture boards. Each person’s access needs are individual. These notes describe the website’s available controls and limits so you can choose a useful format.
Keyboard and text labels
Website links and board buttons use standard keyboard controls. Tab moves through controls; Enter activates a focused link or button, and Space activates a focused button. A visible focus outline identifies the current control. The Skip to content link moves past the site navigation.
Board pictures have adjacent written labels. Images that repeat a button’s visible label are decorative to screen readers so the label is not spoken twice. Message bars are labeled, and message changes are announced through a polite live region.
Button sizes and screen position
Browser boards change their number of columns with the screen width. Larger activities offer separate category pages or additional batches of choices. Choose a comfortable device position and zoom level, and check that the intended picture can be selected consistently.
The website offers direct touch, click and standard keyboard activation. It does not include a dedicated eye-gaze interface, custom switch-scanning program or an individualized clinical access assessment.
Browser speech
Tap-and-play boards use your browser’s speech-synthesis feature when available. Sound on tap speaks individual choices; Speak reads the current message. Clear cancels current speech and removes the message. If speech is unavailable, the board displays a notice and keeps its pictures and text visible.
Check the device volume and voice availability if a message is silent. Browser speech controls do not change a native TouchChat file or its voice settings.
Paper and native alternatives
Printable boards provide a paper activity supplement with Yes, No, Help and Stop in consistent positions. Print at a comfortable size and keep the notes and credits page with the board when sharing.
Native page sets offer a separate format for TouchChat. Follow the import guide, preserve a backup of the everyday vocabulary and verify the imported pictures, speech and navigation on the actual device.
Report a barrier
Contact contact@aacpages.com with the affected page URL, device/browser and a brief description of the control or content that is difficult to use. Leave out private medical information and identifying details about the communicator.
